Organic Lawn Care – Yard Care Basics

Welcome to the organic yard and lawn care site made just for homeowners!

Here you will find straight talk advice and articles about caring for your lawn in a responsible way without all the hype surrounding it. Green grass is hot baby!

You see, I believe that organic lawn and yard care is a choice you should make because in the long run, an organically treated lawn looks better and lasts longer through outside pressure than do synthetically treated ones. Crazy to think, but you don’t have to be an environmentalist in order to have a beautiful healthy lawn that is also friendly to the eco-system around you. YES, you CAN have a nice lawn, trust me!

If you follow along and hang out with me here, you will learn how to have a nice lawn using minimal “products” or “chemicals,” but more than that, you will learn how to do it while NOT spending thousands of dollars at the same time. In addition, I can save you some time along the way too. Put it this way: you don’t need to slather fertilizer on your lawn 7 or 8 times per year like you think… just a few, well-timed, well designed applications is all you need.

Don’t want to read anymore here, then go straight to the lawn care blog for the most up to date articles on what is hitting lawns RIGHT NOW! I update this blog often so you can stay on top of your grass! :)

My Organic Lawn Care Philosophy

By the way, I am Al and I am the author of this website. Learn more about me here. But in the meantime, let me talk to you about my philosophy in regards to treating your lawn organic and naturally. I first believe that you have to establish a thick and generally weed-free lawn BEFORE you can go getting all “Birkenstock and Burlap” with 100% organic lawn applications. That means that if you have a thin turf structure with a bunch of barespots – full of weeds and crab grass, you may need to use some “chemicals” the first year or so in order to set a good foundation. Of course, I will teach you how to apply herbicides to kill weeds, but do it in a way that is more responsible. I also need you to realize that having a few weeds is “ok” and you don’t always have to spray chemicals on everything all the time. If you follow my advice, eventually, your lawn will be very thick and those few weeds will be eradicated naturally. Just so you know, we call this philosophy “Integrated Pest Management.” It means using pesticides only when completely necessary.

Also, a good majority of what I do on the blog here takes place in my very own home lawn. I do that because I want you to see that what I teach you – I am doing it too! My lawn is just like yours! And yes, those are my nasty feet in that picture there on the left… but at least they are soft and silky in that thick turf… :)

Mastering Lawn Care Basics

The other side of the organic lawn coin comes down to the basics that everyone must master, organic or not. You may not realize it, but proper lawn mowing and lawn watering are more important than any thing you apply to your turf. If you can’t or won’t water and mow consistently, then you will have some trouble in the long run.

When I tell you to mow your lawn tall, you have to do it. I know that you may not like the look, but you will get used to it eventually. Now once we get the lawn thick and healthy, then we can look to start mowing it a little shorter. But see guys, you have to be patient and do it right.

Organic Lawn Care Book

I also wrote a book about organic lawn care. It isn’t really a “how to” book but more of a “when-to , what-to” book. I take everything I teach you here and consolidate it into a 25 page book that tells you what to put down on the lawn and when to do it all year long. I have sold hundreds of copies of the book for $7 and the results my buyers are getting are incredible! It’s easy once you know the exact time to apply the products and when to do it! No more guess work! Get it here – Organic Lawn Care Book.

Cool Lawn Stuff

I also like to talk about lawn equipment and lawn mowers and other stuff on the site. Believe it or not, you can be eco-friendly in ways other than just organic fertilizers. Then there are just cool ways to make you lawn look nice too, like using a good lawn striping kit.

You!

Truthfully guys, having a nice lawn is all up to you! I can tell you all about organic lawn applications and how to thicken up the grass in just a few short months, but it is you that will be putting in all the work. You have to commit to it and realize that your lawn is a living asset! It lives and provides constant value to your home investment. I think that’s pretty cool.
